Acupuncture Treatment
Acupuncture uses hair-thin, flexible needles, inserted into specific points on the body to activate the body's own healing powers.
GrandMaster Dr. Richard Tan, OMD and the Balance Method
I had the great opportunity and priviledge to study with Dr. Richard Tan from 1999 to his passing in 2015. It is the primary method of acupuncture I use in my clinic.
What is this Dr Tan's Balance Method?
Dr Tan Balance method uses channel theory, which historically also had been used as the diagnostic tool for acupuncture treatment. Dr Tan’s treatment model is comprised of 5 systems that are all based on channel theory.
The channels are linked according to their name and to the Chinese clock. These groups of channels influence each other so if there is pain in one particular channel we can use the others to balance the affected channel.
The acupuncture meridians are electrical currents running through the body. Dr Tan taught that the body is like a holographic image and developed systems mirroring and imaging one part of the body to another and when you have short circut in one area we have to pull the circut breaker in another area. Mirroring is when similar joints on the upper and lower body mirror each other for example elbows and knees, wrists and ankles. Thus in this system we needle the wrist to treat the ankle, for example. Imaging is when you for example place the image of the face over the arm or leg and using this image treat symptoms in the face by needling the arm or leg. In either case it's resetting the electrical currents and balancing the Qi in the body which reduces or eliminates pain.
Dr. Tan's Balance Method is not limited to treating pain in one area. He developed a whole system of balancing all 12 meridians, thus this system can be used to treat many other chronic and systemic problems and diseases.
